Premier Lawns looks after lawns across Holywood, from Cultra and Seahill up to Craigantlet Hill.
From seasonal lawn treatments to aeration, scarifying and overseeding, we take care of what your lawn needs throughout the year.
You enjoy your garden. We’ll look after the grass.
Sound like your lawn?
- Moss that comes back every spring
- Pale, yellowing grass that never holds its colour
- Soft and spongy when you walk on it
- Lumps and hollows you can feel underfoot
- Thin grass under the trees and in the shade
Each of those has a fix. It usually takes the right work at the right time of year rather than anything quick, and the videos further down show what that looks like on lawns near you.
Your lawn, on autopilot
If you’re in Holywood, up in Cultra or out towards Seahill, your garden is part of your home. It’s the first thing people see when they pull up, and it’s where you want to be when the weather’s good.
You get a lawn that looks right all year, without it eating into your weekends or you having to work out what it needs next. We visit five times a year, roughly every 10 weeks, and time each treatment around the weather. All you do is keep it cut, or let the robot do it, and enjoy it.

Your own personal greenkeeper
Premier Lawns is a small, independent lawn care service based in Newtownabbey. It was started by Robbie Lynn in 2012, after 20 years as a greenkeeper at six golf clubs, the last eight at Clandeboye Golf Club. And it’s that knowledge that helps us work out what your lawn needs, rather than treating every lawn the same way.
We also run a lawn care channel on YouTube with over 100,000 subscribers, and the lawns you see in the videos are our clients’ lawns.
We keep our list of clients small on purpose. It means treatments go down when the conditions are right rather than when the calendar says so, and every lawn gets the attention it needs. It also means places are limited, and we only take on a select few each year.

Lawns we’ve worked on near you
These are four lawns we’ve worked on in Holywood, each with different problems and different work needed to put them right.
Holywood (BT18)
Levelling a bumpy lawn full of moss
The problem: A very bumpy lawn, with moss right through it.
What we did: We scalped it down so we could see the humps and hollows, then aerated, scarified and seeded with dwarf rye and fescue. We filled the low spots with topsoil a bit at a time, firming each layer down, then top dressed the rest, matted it in and finished with seaweed and iron.
Why we did it this way: Filling a little at a time and firming as you go stops the soil sinking later and leaving the dips back where they started.
Holywood (BT18)
Clearing a lawn smothered in moss
The problem: Long, tired and thatchy, and completely smothered in moss. It looked beyond saving.
What we did: We cut it right down first, breaking our own one-third rule for once, so the machines could get into it. Then we aerated, scarified to pull out the moss, thatch and dead grass, fed it and put iron on.
Why we did it this way: Aerating first means we can see where we’ve been, and the scarifier breaks up the cores as it goes. The feed helps the stressed grass recover and push out new roots, and the iron dries out whatever moss is left.
Seahill, Holywood (BT18) · 2024
Sorting out a spongy lawn
The problem: A mostly fescue lawn with a deep, spongy layer of thatch that came back every year, even though we’d been scarifying it for years. The client didn’t want to kill it off and start again.
What we did: We aerated, scarified and overseeded with dwarf rye, then top dressed and matted it in.
Why we did it this way: Fine fescues build up thatch quickly. Dwarf rye makes far less of it, so as the rye takes hold the lawn gets less spongy, without having to start again from scratch.
Cultra, Holywood (BT18) · 2020
Bringing back a lawn with hardly any roots
The problem: The cores showed very few roots, a sign the soil was compacted. Parts of the lawn sat in shade, and there were a couple of deep hollows.
What we did: We aerated, then scarified twice, the second pass across the first to take the most moss out, and put iron on afterwards. The next day we filled the hollows with topsoil, firmed it down and seeded with a fescue and rye mix suited to shade.
Why we did it this way: Compacted soil squeezes out the air that roots need, so aerating comes first to give them room to grow. The client has a few words to say about us partway through the video.
We only do work like this for clients on our treatment programme. We don’t take it on as one-off jobs, and levelling is only for clients who’ve been with us for six months or more.

- You need someone to cut the grass
- You only want a one-off treatment or quick fix
We'd love to help everyone, but we're a small team and can only take on a limited number of new lawns each year. Here's where to go instead.
Above all else, we work in partnership with you. What you do between our visits makes the biggest difference, and we'll guide you on what to do and when.
Could your lawn be one we look after?
We only take on a small number of new lawns each year, focusing on areas where we can provide a reliable, ongoing service.

A few common questions
Do you cover my street?
We cover BT18, which takes in Holywood and Cultra, and part of BT19, out to Helens Bay, Crawfordsburn and Bangor, down to the Newtownards Road. Pop your postcode into the checker at the top of the page to see if you’re on our route.
Do you cut the grass?
No. We look after the lawn itself, and you keep it cut between visits, or a robot mower does. If you need someone to mow it, we’re not the right fit.
How soon can you start?
Spring and autumn are our busiest times, and we only take on a limited number of new lawns each year.
If we have availability and your lawn is a good fit, we’ll send you an estimate by email and carry out the first treatment on our first visit.
Renovations are normally planned three to six months after you join us. We prefer to get your lawn onto a regular treatment programme first, dealing with weeds and preparing it for the renovation. Our renovations can include seeding and topdressing, so the timing matters, as weed treatments and seeding can’t be carried out together.
How will I know you’re coming?
We send you a reminder before the visit, and it tells you which member of the team is coming.
Do I need to be home when you visit?
Not at all. Most of our clients are out when we visit, so there’s no need to arrange your day around us. All we need is access to your lawn. If you have a locked gate, we’re happy to keep your access code securely on file. We’ll take care of the treatment, close everything up behind us and leave your garden just as we found it. After the visit, we leave a card so you know we’ve been.
Is it safe for children and pets?
Yes. Keep children and pets off the lawn while we’re treating it, and until the lawn is dry.
