Premier Lawns looks after lawns across Carrickfergus, Whitehead and Ballycarry village, and some larger lawns out on Islandmagee.
From seasonal lawn treatments to aeration, scarifying and overseeding, we take care of what your lawn needs throughout the year.
You enjoy your garden. We’ll look after the grass.
Sound like your lawn?
- Moss that comes back every spring
- Pale, yellowing grass that never holds its colour
- Thin, patchy grass that never seems to thicken up
- Weak areas that never seem to recover, whatever you do
- Soft and spongy when you walk on it
Each of those has a fix. It usually takes the right work at the right time of year rather than anything quick, and the videos further down show what that looks like on lawns near you.
Your lawn, on autopilot
If you’re in Carrickfergus, out at Whitehead or in Ballycarry village, your garden is part of your home. It’s the first thing people see when they pull up, and it’s where you want to be when the weather’s good.
You get a lawn that looks right all year, without it eating into your weekends or you having to work out what it needs next. We visit five times a year, roughly every 10 weeks, and time each treatment around the weather. All you do is keep it cut, or let the robot do it, and enjoy it.

Your own personal greenkeeper
Premier Lawns is a small, independent lawn care service based in Newtownabbey. It was started by Robbie Lynn in 2012, after 20 years as a greenkeeper at six golf clubs, the last eight at Clandeboye Golf Club. And it’s that knowledge that helps us work out what your lawn needs, rather than treating every lawn the same way.
We also run a lawn care channel on YouTube with over 100,000 subscribers, and the lawns you see in the videos are our clients’ lawns.
We keep our list of clients small on purpose. It means treatments go down when the conditions are right rather than when the calendar says so, and every lawn gets the attention it needs. It also means places are limited, and we only take on a select few each year.

Lawns we’ve worked on near you
These are lawns we’ve worked on around Whitehead and Ballycarry, and one of our bigger lawns out on Islandmagee, each with different problems and different work needed to put them right.
Whitehead (BT38) · 2022
Scarifying late in spring without overdoing it
The problem: Dead grass, moss and thatch building up in the base of the lawn, and it was the middle of May, about as late as we’ll scarify in spring.
What we did: We cut it, solid tine aerated, then scarified with two passes set close together. Then we put iron on the moss and fed it.
Why we did it this way: Solid tines rather than hollow cores, because hollow coring heading into summer can dry the lawn out if a dry spell comes. Running the passes close together is gentler than a full crisscross, which matters when you don’t know if the rain will come to help it recover. After this one, we don’t scarify again until the middle of August.
Ballycarry (BT38)
Thickening up a thin lawn
The problem: A thin, patchy lawn with a layer of thatch built up below the grass. The cores showed roots going all the way down, so the soil underneath was in good shape.
What we did: We hollow core aerated, scarified, overseeded, then topdressed with a seeding soil and dragged the seed in. We finished with a slow-release feed and seaweed.
Why we did it this way: A thin layer of thatch is healthy, because it acts like a mulch and keeps the soil damper, so the job is thinning it out, not stripping it bare. The seeding soil holds moisture around the seed and evens out small dips. This lawn gets seaweed regularly, which encourages deep roots and feeds the soil, not just the lawn.
Islandmagee (BT40) · 2020
A lawn of nearly 3,000 square metres
The problem: One of our biggest lawns, the best part of 3,000 square metres, with thatch and moss building up below the surface year after year.
What we did: We double scarified the whole lawn with our normal scarifier, working it in sections so one of us could clear up while the other kept going.
Why we did it this way: It was early August, a week before we’d normally start. A lawn this size takes time, and with heat that week and rain forecast for the next, it was set to recover quickly. Temperatures drop fast here in autumn, so we’d rather scarify a bit early than push on into November, when the lawn won’t recover. When we did it the year before, we pulled out about twice as much.
We only do work like this for clients on our treatment programme. We don’t take it on as one-off jobs.

A few common questions
Do you cover my street?
We cover BT38, which takes in Carrickfergus, Whitehead and Ballycarry village, as well as Greenisland. We also look after some larger lawns further out, on Islandmagee. If you’ve a bigger lawn out that way, it’s worth asking, even if the postcode checker says you’re outside our area. Lawns further out can take longer to get a first visit, because we have to make the trip rather than call in while we’re passing, so in a lot of cases you’ll be offered a place on our waiting list. If you’re in Greenisland, have a look at our Jordanstown and Greenisland page too. Pop your postcode into the checker at the top of the page to see if you’re on our route.
Do you cut the grass?
No. We look after the lawn itself, and you keep it cut between visits, or a robot mower does. If you need someone to mow it, we’re not the right fit.
How soon can you start?
Spring and autumn are our busiest times, and we only take on a limited number of new lawns each year.
If we have availability and your lawn is a good fit, we’ll send you an estimate by email and carry out the first treatment on our first visit.
Renovations are normally planned three to six months after you join us. We prefer to get your lawn onto a regular treatment programme first, dealing with weeds and preparing it for the renovation. Our renovations can include seeding and topdressing, so the timing matters, as weed treatments and seeding can’t be carried out together.
How will I know you’re coming?
We send you a reminder before the visit, and it tells you which member of the team is coming.
Do I need to be home when you visit?
Not at all. Most of our clients are out when we visit, so there’s no need to arrange your day around us. All we need is access to your lawn. If you have a locked gate, we’re happy to keep your access code securely on file. We’ll take care of the treatment, close everything up behind us and leave your garden just as we found it. After the visit, we leave a card so you know we’ve been.
Is it safe for children and pets?
Yes. Keep children and pets off the lawn while we’re treating it, and until the lawn is dry.
